Can phytoestrogens help with symptoms of menopause?
During menopause, the body decreases the amount of hormones it makes – mainly estrogen and progesterone.
This decrease in estrogen can trigger some uncomfortable symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, and vaginal dryness.
Phytoestrogen and estrogen have a similar chemical structure, so scientists are very interested in how the use of phytoestrogens to treat common menopausal symptoms.
Overall, the research shows that phytoestrogens are effective in reducing the frequency and intensity of hot flashes in menopausal women.
